RECORD CLASSIFICATION
Every Surface Record belongs to the Archive Registry.
Each work is classified by format, number, state, and issuance.
CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM
SURFACE RECORD
A one-of-one hand-painted physical record.
Each Surface Record is signed, numbered, and documented before release.
SURFACE FRAGMENT
A digital artifact.
Fragments may contain visual material, written records, archive notes, or compressed documents connected to the larger Surface system.
REGISTRY NUMBER
A unique identification number assigned to a Surface Record.
This number is used for verification and archive tracking.
ISSUANCE
A release window.
Some records are released individually. Others may appear as part of a limited issuance.
STATE
The condition or phase of the record at time of documentation.
Possible states may include:
- Logged
- Sealed
- Released
- Claimed
- Archived
CERTIFICATE
Physical Surface Records may include a certificate of authenticity.
The certificate confirms the record’s registry number, title, date, and archive status.
ONE-OF-ONE STATUS
A one-of-one Surface Record is not reproduced in the same form.
Digital images of the record may remain visible for documentation, promotion, or archive purposes.
Ownership of the physical object does not transfer copyright or reproduction rights.
ARCHIVE NOTE
The Registry exists to document the object.
The record exists to hold the residue.
